Opening Day for Colerain High School’s 84th Baseball season will be Monday, March 31 at home when the Cardinals host GMC rival Hamilton at 4:30 p.m. To begin the season, the Colerain Alumni Association has invited back the four surviving members of the 1940 State Runner-Up baseball team: Otis Butterfield, Andy Mack, Bud Schiering, and Gene Taylor. There will be a brief pre-game ceremony at 4:15 p.m. to recognize this outstanding team. Admission to both the ceremony and the game is free. The 1940 Colerain baseball team had a record of 14 - 1, with their only loss in the State Championship game to Portsmouth. Gene Taylor was the team’s primary pitcher with a school record 12 wins that season. Taylor will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to his former catcher, Andy Mack.

As an update, the Colerain Boosters are ahead of schedule in paying off the loan for Field Turf installed in 2004. Every payment has been made on time and additional principal is added to each payment so that the loan will be paid in a shorter time period than originally planned. With everyone making pledge payments in a timely manner, the loan will be fully paid well ahead of schedule. No one individual or group of individuals have guaranteed the loan nor is there a need given the pledge payments made to date and those anticipated in the future. As a side note, the entire project has been funded through generous contributions of both individuals and local businesses. At no time have the Boosters received Tax money from the Board of Education to support this or any of its projects.

To the Colerain High School Community, My family needs your support! To those of you who had my father, Michael Hanning in school or know him otherwise: My dad has been diagnosed with a degenerative dementia called Pick's Disease. It is similar to Alzheimer's. We have been struggling to deal with this difficult time as we treat and accept this terrible disease. Because this will eventually affect my dad's memory, we would like to make a “call for help” in making my dad a scrapbook of memories. He adored his time at Colerain as a teacher and an administrator. We know that each of his students, co-workers and friends touched his life in insurmountable ways. If my dad has touched your life in some way or you have a fond memory of him, please send a letter, photograph or video tape to us so that we can keep his memories and legacy alive. Please e-mail me at bekah47@hotmail.com or send snail-mail to: Rebecca Hanning Scrapbook 5877 Wilmer Road Cincinnati Ohio, 47247 We appreciate any support, thoughts and prayers. Best, Rebecca and Sandra Hanning and Jessica (Hanning) Gable

Field Turf installation is beginning today - July 13, 2004. Scheduled completion is the first week of August. Both the Band and Football teams will be able to conduct preseason practices on the surface once the installation is complete. All Boosters are invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 25. More information will be released as it becomes available. The Boosters are still in need of individual and corporate contributions. You can join the Boosters online by going to the 'Join the Boosters' link on the left hand side of this page. This and all other Booster projects benefit all of the students at Colerain High School and White Oak and Colerain Middle Schools.

A Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on Monday, May, 17 at 5:30 p.m. to officially begin the project to install FieldTurf in the stadium. This project is the largest ever undertaken by the Boosters and it will benefit all students as the surface can be used for: - PE classes - Marching Band practices and competitions - Baseball and Softball practices - Soccer practices and games in the event that the Soccer Stadium can't be used for games due to field conditions. - Football practices and games - Middle School Football games - Community use - Soccer and Football The Boosters need to raise $650,000 over the next five years to fund this project plus a number of other projects aimed to benefit students participating in all extracurricular activities. Within the next few weeks, we will begin providing updates on the status of the project.

After moving to Pennsylvania in 1989, it was very refreshing to be able to look back at a few Colerain faces. There truly is "no place like home".I miss Cincy dearly, especially Old Colerain Township park.I am fortunate to still have my parents.I was little brother to Doug and Dave Johnson (class of 69 & 70..or close to ) and big brother to Deron and Donovan ( class of 84 & 87..or close to ).I was semi quite in school. My junior year I transferred to Northwest for Auto Mechanics ( grease monkey ).I twisted wrenches in my junior and senior years and after graduation took a career in the printing trades where I have been ever since. Congrats to all that made the Hall O Fame........well gotta go.Thanks to all that make this web site possible because truly THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME.....GOD BLESS! Dan Johnson ( northwest class of 76....or close to )
